For the first time in the history of Tamil Films, two Aravanis (transgender) are going to play lead roles in forthcoming films Thenavattu and Paal. While Karpaka features as the central character in Paal, Revathi will be seen in a vital character in Thenavattu. There is no need to say both are transgender. Directed by Shiva Kumar, Paal is the film, which deals with the problem of transgender in which Kadhal Kandhas plays the male lead role.

According to Shiva Kumar, the project is the result of meticulous study in Mumbai amidst the community for over two months in the company of Vidya, the author of the book, Living Smile, who underwent a sex change operation in real life." The film shows the realistic side of the transgender activist Vidya, who is assisting him in the film.
