For years, Wayne Steinman has volunteered for various organizations that cater to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents on Staten Island, but always dreamed of bringing those services together under one roof.

Today, the Midland Beach resident, as well as thousands of others in an often-marginalized community, had their wishes fulfilled with the official opening of the Staten Island Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Center in Tompkinsville. Located at a 5,000-square-foot space on Victory Boulevard, the center was created to provide both a haven and a host of services at a central location in the borough.
