Out in Montreal: Gazette editor publishes transition story

My friend Jillian decided to make the story of her transition a VERY public event!

First post in today's Montreal Gazette

Her perspective is somewhat different than mine, but
it will be interesting to hear what she writes.

If it had been any other lifestyle change, I probably wouldn't have needed to say a word about it. But transsexuality, and chest protrusions, are by their nature quite visible, and society hasn't reached the point yet where one can make such a change without raising some eyebrows. And that's basically what I told my colleagues in an email in April, minus two words: chest protrusions. It was the setup note for what was to come. It simply informed them that I am a transgender person, specifically a transsexual, that I would appreciate it if they called me Jill from now on, and that the company was recognizing the name change and it would be reflected in my computer ID and email. I had popped into the office on my day off, hit the send button, and then hit the road. R.I.P. Bill.

I wondered if you might know her.  She and I have been friends since 2005.  I know her from another transgender group and we've spent hours on the phone.  She supported me through my transition and I want to do the same for her.
