The scoreboard shows a tough game.

After three frames, Rachel Silverstein has managed a score of just 17, and her team is losing. Amid the din of Parkside Lanes, Rachel's girlfriend whispers advice. Rachel launches the ball, and when the pins tip over, the frustrations of her latest skirmish with school administrators can recede for the moment.

Rachel is trying to hold together Oswego East High School's first Gay-Straight Alliance. Administrators encourage the group to merge with the diversity club. Rachel wants to organize a silent demonstration against bullying of gay students. Administrators would rather see a protest against bullying in general.
