OK, I had to fire an employee today...simply because he was to slow and made a lot of mistakes so after I had him in my office with the VP and Human Resources personnel the man litterally had tears in his eyes..at this point there was nothing I could do I tried counseling him, retraining, minimizing his work load...and giving him basic tasks...he just didn't seem to get it...So as the story goes

So anyway after we all came out of my office and everything is said and done now im the mean old ->-bleeped-<- girl that fired the sweet guy!

HMMMMM...sometimes the corporate life sucks.

I just feel a little guilty

Awl, Chynna, what a terrible thing for someone as sweet as you to have to do. But you know you did everything you could, it was really out of your hands. You can't save someone unless they want to save themselves.

Heck, maybe they even subconsciously *knew* what it was leading to... and chose to not stop it.

At least you gave him several chances.  It sounds like you were more than fair.  I wouldn't be too hard on yourself, you're not mean.

Maybe he really could not do the job and it was not his fault or yours, just not the job for him...that after all happens to a lot of people in life.  I think it is sad when a person looses a job, but on the flip side where was that gonna do him any good anyway...now or later he was going to have to face that he was in over his head or whatever the case was.  I think you did fine, what else could you do when ya think about it....not do your job??

Peace,

Taylor

You didn't fire that guy, Chynna.  He fired himself.

You just made it official.

Hey Chynna!

Don't beat yourself up over it!  While I can imagine it was hard to fire somebody, it doesn't sound like this job was right for him if he couldn't get a handle on it after all those chances. When it comes to being in charge of something, sometimes you have to be the hardass that you don't really want to be, but hopefully not often.  I have a hard time thinking of you as
Quotethe mean old ->-bleeped-<- girl that fired the sweet guy!
You seem like a real sweetie! Maybe the guy was sweet too, but if he can't get the job done, you just gotta give him the boot! (It's always worked that way for me.  >:D)

Anyhow, I'm sorry you had a crap-tacular day at work.  I always soak my feet and eat chocolate on those kinds of days...indulge yourself on something, maybe it will help make you feel better.   :-*

Chynna Doll:

Don't be so hard on yourself; I know it hurts deeply when someone is let go, but I also know that if someone needs a job, s/he should try to do his/her very best to keep it.

On the other hand, you just did what you had to do; unfortunately that's the way it is, and there's nothing we can do, except, of course, hope to get better job applicants in the near future. ^-^

take care and smile; I don't know you personally but I know that you don't look pretty when you're sad ;)

Hey Chynna,

I am sorry that happened to, however, it's not your fault. I have had to fire many people over the years and many times it is sad.  I had to fire my older brother when he worked for me, and that was most difficult.

The Peter Principle:  Everyone rises to thier level of incompetence and remains there.

Eventually everyone gets promoted to a job they are no longer qualified to do. Everyone reaches thier level of incompetence. However, sometimes people are able to use their own set of tools to get elevated to a job that they are not only incompetent at, but actaully just are incapable of doing.

Sounds like you did everything you could to help this person become sucessful and they either lacked the desire or the skills to do so.  You have a job to do also and when those under you, that you delegate, do not perform, it is the same as you not performing. "The delegation of authority is the same as having had done it yourself". At least as far as your superiors are concerned.

As long as it did not get personal, which it did not, it's just a bad situation. Again I am sorry you had to experience this.

Love always,
Elizabeth

HI Chynna,
Sorry you had to go through that. Being on the firing side is not easy. While I never have been in the position to fire someone I think you did fine. Sounded like a real sweet guy. I would have felt bad had I been in that position. Being that I was recently let go from a job I know what it feels like to be out of a job. I've never been fired from a job. Just laid off due to company buyouts .

That's why you get paid the big bucks.  It's lonely at the top. But I guess it doesn't make it any easier.

Hello Chynna,

Sorry to hear you had such a bad day at the office.  It sounds like you gave him a fair shake to straighten up his act, but if he could not cut it, then you really had no choice but to let him go.  I have fired a few people myself and I was fired from one job that was certainly not right for me.  I'm sure he will move forward and find a job that better suits his abilities.  Don't beat yourself up too much.  When I have crappy days like this I just go to a bar with some friends and get a tequila sunrise or a beer.  Just make sure you have a designated driver, otherwise call a cab.

Sorry to read that, I know that it can suck hard having to do that.  I hate that kind of stuff and avoid those positions like the plague.  The quickest way to get me to leave a job is to put a few employees under me.

I'm sure Chynna would LOVE having a few male employee's under her, or her under them rather. ;)

Another screwed up day!

It's not even 8 oclock and im walking down the street to the office when one of the carriers who delivers bank statments and negotiable items pulls up in his little CLK Mercedes (you he thinks hes john shaft or sometype of superfly) anyway he starts questioning me like hes my man or sumtin asking me if I had a problem with his delivery
First a little background on this cat...My ex-wife works for another company like mines we happen to use the same courier service (this guy) He likes my ex-wife and totally disagrees with "her husbands" lifestyle
HER WORDS EXACTLY NOT MINES
so 2 weeks ago I had an issue with the post office not providing me with daily receipts of one of my banks postage account (for mailing statements) I contacted his boss\manager to ASK if he could make sure that these receipts were in the bins he picks up if not could he simply ask....

So today (2 WEEKS LATER) ?! he stops me in the middle of the street to ask me if i had a problem with his delivery I replied "No, I had an issue with my receipts which I addressed with your boss."
His said "Well if you hd a problem with my delivery you  should of taken it up with me you see me everyday!"

OK NOW THE BYTCH COMES OUT OF ME.

"First of all, I don't see you everyday you drive past me everyday! secondly I took the issue up with your boss after I asked my employee to ask you to simply ask\check for the receipts incidentally your boss  works for me hence YOU work for me! Now if you have an issue with something I discussed with you boss or me for that manner, you need o take it up with my boss and not approach me in the middle of the damn street."
by this time my co-worker is pulling on my purse telling me to come on because im about to open a can of whip ass on this dumb  :icon_censored:

I walked away because by this time traffic was held up in the street And I was PMSing from the lack of coffee and overdose of extreme stupid I said  to him "you really need to learn some professionalisum but ill take it up with your boss when I get to work!"

I'll have his job by weeks end!!! if not before the days out.........

OH Melissa,
Ha Ha Ha Ha.............But well never know I might like them underneath me or over top of me Im flexible like that ;D :D
