androgynes and computer jobs?

One of the things i've noticed is that there seems to be a *bunch* of people on here with some kind of computer/tech job or interest. I'm just curious that if you are such a person what it is that you do for a living, and i'm also curious to see how many responses there are. I have a little theory that being an androgyne and having a computer job seems to go together. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'll start.

I own a computer consulting company, so I get to do a wide variety of things including programming, systems support, application design, porting of systems from one box to another, hardware diagnosis, and troubleshooting of systems that other companies have done. I've worked on windows, unix, and mainframe style systems. I've coded in cobol, basic, c, c++, c#, asm, .net, and a couple of proprietary languages.

I think a lot of it has to do with being less comfortable with people, and more at ease in a situation where interpersonal interaction is not critical to doing the job itself.

I'm a system administrator at the moment, though I am seriously thinking about learning Java so I can get a job as a programmer.

Part of it is indeed because I am not very comfortable with people; at least, not comfortable with large groups of people. And the fact that I like puzzles and love to solve them.

I've heard that there is a high percentage of transgender people in computer oriented professions.

In my family though, my non trans partner and hir daughter are both much geekier than I. They design websites, my partner fixes Macs, and they sit around the dinner table talking about things like CSS while my eyes glaze over

but my graphics programing hobby alows me to work my creative,logical &mathematical parts of my brain to beautiful effect a moving3d heart made entirly from code is very math heavy

I'm a mainframe (z/OS) system programmer who specializes in Storage Admin.  I have done everything from Desktop Support to Windows Servers and a few web sites.  The thing I like best about this business is that whatever you are doing today will be completely different in 5 years (or less).  Technology changes at a staggering rate, so there are always new things to learn and new toys to play with.

I find that people in computer jobs are a mixed group, but most do like solving problems and developing new solutions to everyday tasks/problems.  The only real limits to what can be done is your imagination.

As far as dealing with machines instead of people...I wish!  Still, there are lots of times that one can retreat to the nether regions and escape to a place where only logic and resource limitations must be followed.  Amazingly enough, I have no gender dysphoria when I am writing code, though I do wish the cyber-world in my mind had prettier colors and graphics like it does in the movies. 

As far as a large number of transgendered people...in the Mainframe Systems world, I haven't met anyone who was openly TG, but I admit that I haven't met everybody.  Looks like I have some ground-breaking ahead of me.

I had a computer job and definately a computer interest. I was the company webmaster, graphics designer, and as-needed department programmer (VB). I've programmed on everything from a 3.06 Ghz Pentium 4 laptop to a graphing calculator, just because I could.

I agree with Laurry, most of the computer geeks I know love to mix logic with creativity. And pr0n, but we won't get into that, will we?  >

I do sysadmin stuff.

I did helpdesk, hardware repair, application support, some webby stuff, cold fusion.

netware admin for over a decade. now a windows network admin.

I learned late and fell into it. apparently, I like problem solving.

I am a teacher, but I teach Computers.  So I am a mix of both being with people, and being on the glow side of the screen.
