Sadly no. I don't think I'll be doing much with my father on that day. I would buy him something special, but right now all of my money is going to helping them find a place to live so my mother and father don't have to live a motel anymore.

A few weeks ago, I asked my dad what he wanted to do for his special day.  "Do you want to eat out or should we cook you dinner?"  I was hoping (praying  ;D) that he would say he wanted to to eat in a restaurant, but NOOOOOOOO...  ;D

So, we are going to barbecue for him; however we are going to do it on Saturday (not Sunday, for I have a 12-hour shift on Monday, and I need to go to bed early)  All in all, I think it will turn out perfectly well, as we will kill two birds with one stone (Father's day & Chris's birthday party).  Pretty clever, eh? ;)

we were going to barbecue too but it's been like an oven here lately & no one wants to take the plunge. can't blame them.  so i think the "big cook" out's gonna be fruit, tomatoes and feta cheese and bread dipped in olive oil. maybe not historically accurate, but still tasty and satisfying.

I'll be spending at least part of the day with my daughter!  I expect we'll go out for brunch and maybe a movie after that!

My father is long deceased.  My spouse plans to be out most of the afternoon at church.  So I will do my normal puttering around the house.

QuoteMy father is long deceased

I have children but no longer am a father. My children no longer consider me a father so the day is just a lost tradition no longer relevant to me.

This is the first time I feel forgotten on Father's Day.  My daughter was working - and I get that.  I had a phone call last night from my son saying that he forgot that today is Father's Day, and that he had invited his cousin over to hang out with.

I saw my kids, but I really can't say I spent time with them.   :(

Just a phone call to him (they live hours away), and sent him a flower/gift basket. A really manly one ;)

I get calls from my kids and even my ex, and went on a picnic at the park and did some grillin'.

I had a great day with my daughter.  We went to brunch then went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  It was so great, she squeezed my hand during the scary parts like she did when she was little!  We finished it off with ice cream, a long talk and then went our seperate ways.  Sweet!

Sorry Lisbeth. You sure deserve better.

I phoned my Dad in France and we had a long chat. He got the photos from Corsica and he was really chuffed that Eileen fell in love with his native place. Then we went to visit Eileen's Dad, he was delighted as we brought him a cake and had a great laugh when I told him that Eileen was learning French and we wouldn't be able to speak about her in that language anymore. His and mine Irish aren't that great even if he was in the Irish army for 15 years on UN missions.
Then my children came over and cooked me a meal, each doing one dish and most importantly cleaning afterwards!. We had a great time catching up, as even the youngest one could relax having finished her exams.

In point of fact, I never made it outside the house.  Because of relationship struggles I barely made it out of bed, but then she forced me to get dressed.  (Thank you, Dearheart!  I love you!)  I spent the rest of the day on YIM talking to one person or another.

Father's Days are so hard sometimes.  But this one worked out wonderfully.  We were able to have the whole family over.  My cookout was a work of art!  (she modestly says)

I expected the worst but got the best.  That is a nice surprise.

My partner and I went out to a late breakfast and then drove down the Jersey shore of the Delaware looking for nice houses with an eye to buying one of them.

My sons were with their step-father celebrating Father's Day. They celebrate Mother's Day with me. My dad's been dead for decades.

We had a wonderful day and it never dawned on me that it was Father's Day yesterday until reading this thread. I suppose that explains all of the backyard bar-b-ques we saw ongoing yesterday.
