State: ->-bleeped-<- flick too racy for park lineup

A transsexual punk rocker is too racy, but a psychopath with an ax is just fine with state parks officials when they approved this year's summer movie lineup in Empire–Fulton Ferry State Park.

Three out of eight films selected by the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy — "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "The Shining" and "Stand By Me" — were under scrutiny because of their R rating.

But after state parks commissioner Carol Ash viewed the films, only "Hedwig" was barred — and Conservancy director Marianna Koval is still scratching her head.

"Hedwig" was replaced it with "Cabaret," which has similar trans-gendered themes," said Mary Mauro, co-chair of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy's film committee.

Having a few cross-dressed people in a club makes a movie have "trans-gendered" themes, even though the main characters aren't and don't contemplate ever being? So, I would suppose that "Trans America" had "cissexual" themes since it had a few nons in it's story? Sometimes people just seem as though they are intentionally obtuse.

People, for the most part, are just woefully ignorant when it comes to the T community. I know some college instructors who have put forth a question on gender to their students and get all kinds of surprises. I also know a few researchers (sociology) who have mentioned that they have a T friend (me) and have colleagues ask a ton of questions because they have simply never really met a T person before.

It carries over in other areas. There is a pretty strong T presence where I live and yet I have had medical doctors ask me a lot of questions and tell me that they have never had the opportunity to discuss transsexual issues with anyone else before. I still get charged for the time, that I think needs to change.

Now imagine people who have not had to think about gender much and also lack a college degree of some sort.
