I've spent the last week in New York City which is why I haven't been here. But anyway, every time I thought I saw an FTM it was strange. 

For example, I saw an FTM with a good amount of facial hair and a manly walk, but with highly manicured eyebrows and make up.  Most would say "Maybe it was a bio-man" but it had breasts and I could just tell, ya know?  Then I saw many more like that.

Any ideas why?

Because, New York, regardless of some of it's problems, is a cosmopolitan city where all meet all and discover that they are fine with the fact that they are who they are. NYC isn't as ridden by the beast of conformity as is much of the rest of USA.

Personally, I love going the The City for its vitality and its diversity. It's wonderful and beautiful and garish and dirty, expansive and enclaved and a microcosm of every single aspect of life on earth dwells vibrantly on Manhattan, in Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island and Queens, yes, even Staten Island and Queens. *smile*

I find I cannot live there -- it gets to be too much. But, for me, the trains are close-by and to go to New York is to go to the heart of life.

That was your first mistake. Unless you spoke to them,  and questioned them on their identity. You can't really say what they were at all. There are plenty of people out there that would be quite pleased with such an appearance and that would be completely congruent with their identity. Not everybody you see is necessarily male or female or on the path to 'becoming' such.

...and I could just tell, ya know?

Maybe you couldn't as well as you may have thought?

People in NY do what they want.  Its the best part of the city. 

In other news, you are projecting.  You don't know that, could have been a lot of things, many of which you don't even begin to know.  It's New York after all.

I didn't mean to offend nor sound ignorant.  It's just that my whole trans-career has consisted of people trying so hard to pass as their desired gender.  When it's being mixed it gets confusing.

We all show our ignorance of things; it's not a bad thing when someone is willing to afmit that perhaps she doesn't know everything and can always learn from a new experience.

You might have tried talking to the people.  Not coming right out and saying it, but starting a normal conversation and going from there.  I find that New York types are pretty open.

I think the bigger the City, the less people care what others think.  By the time you're living in LA, well you can't worry about what 8 million other people are thinking about, not enough time in the day.
