"About 40 people, many of whom are transgendered, gathered at First Congregational Church Monday night to discuss the recent beating of transgendered African-American Duanna Johnson by a Memphis police officer.

This ranks at the top of the list with the Rodney King incident of police brutality. My question is-"why was the rookie fired and the beater/hater cop "placed on desk duty?" He's the creep who should have been fired instantly. The rookie's 1 yr. probationary period shouldn't have been a factor-BOTH officers should have been squashed. My son's a police officer and I would disown him if he ever did anything like this! "To protect and serve" is the norm but there's always a few bad apples in every career. The bystanders in the precinct should also be accountable for this horrible act of violence. Martha Stephens"
