Thinking of a hair cut

My hair is getting to a really good medium length but I hate to admit it, I like short hair. I don't know if this is because I look better with short hair or it is just so much more convenient.

I feel bad cutting it because I know that in a few months time I'll be wishing it were long again, and I feel like it is part of my gender expression (but then reality is I just look like a guy with long hair anyway, abiet with pigtails and hair clips).. But I just have this urge to cut it short - something short and spiky. Maybe it is related to this whole spell of not feeling too dysphoric at the moment.

Anyone relate? (reminds me of Nero and his eyeliner)

I do.  I have medium to long hair, and I've been getting the itch to go short and spiky too.  But I'm afraid =/

There's one important thing to remember.  Hair grows back!  Both of you should go for it if you've got the itch to do it.

I'm not sure how much i would relate it to gender but if you feel it's part of your own self image to do it then that's all the more reason to go for it.  ^^

I for one shall be dying my hair a nice green once i figure out the logistics of such.  XD

I'm going to give it a couple weeks. If I still feel like this I'm going to get it chopped. Or enter into one of those hair dresser comps as a model - they don't get too many long haired guys to play with.

another issue for me it is the middle of winter in my hemisphere. - I could always wear a hat I guess - oh I could get something pink and woolly with a pompom! :D

I just don't know if I have the face shape and body figure to pull of a shot spiky look.  =/

Sounds like a good idea to wait and see if you still have the urge in a few weeks. I've had mine short for about a year and a half now, give or take, but the first cut wasn't as short as my most recent, and I only made that decision after thinking about it for a while to realize if I really wanted it. It actually looks a bit male-ish or a more androgynous male cut now, which I think looks pretty good on me and I have a fair amount of flexibility to play with it if I wanted (but I'm lazy in that aspect, lol).

That's what hairdressers are for. :)
At least in theory they should have the training and eye to see if such a look would work. Of course, not all of them are prepared to offer advice to someone who asks for a gender-neutral look, but I guess there should be at least one.

Then again, what do I know -- I haven't come out to my hair salon (although considering the state of my hairline that might be pretty futile). Perhaps one day...

I agree!  If you want to cut it, chop it off!!!  :D  I just got mine hacked off.  I'll wear it short for a while and then I let it grow out again.  It's a pretty endless, repetitive cycle.  :P

When I go to my stylist, I give her really basic instructions, as far as about how long I'd like it, and I let her do whatever she wants...it ALWAYS looks fantastic when she's done.  You're stylist should be able to make it look great!  :)  I have a chubby round face and she can cut my hair short and make it look good.

But I'm all about getting my hair cut off, so I'm a little biased to short hair ;)

I'm kind of going the other way, as a young man I had longer hair and now that i'm older I have the generic business guy shorter haircut, and i've been losing some on top but am trying to get it back. I'd love to be able to grow it out again, and if I can I probably will.

I'd say give the short cut a try, you only live once (well, unless you get reincarnated).

Go for it, I got a bizarre pixie cut a few months ago, and the joy of hair is that it grows back, it's not permanent (unlike piercings, but that's a whole other story  :P )

Though, make sure to get it done professionaly, some of the cuts people put on themselves can be nightmares.
