heres one of my fav

Cyndi Lauper: true colors

You with the sad eyes
don't be discouraged
oh I realize
it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
and the darkness inside you
can make you fell so small

But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow

Show me a smile then
don't be unhappy, can't remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you've taken all you can bear
you call me up
because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow

While I was unimpressed with the movie TransAmerica, Dolly's song is wonderful.  Dolly also has been a supporter of the transgender community among the country music community.

Travelin Thru - from the movie TransAmerica
Words & music by Dolly Parton

Well I can't tell you where I'm going, I'm not sure of where I've been.
But I know I must keep travelin' till my road comes to an end.
I'm out here on my journey, trying to make the most of it.
I'm a puzzle, I must figure out where all my pieces fit.

Like a poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song.
I'm just a weary pilgrim trying to find what feels like home.
Where that is no one can tell me, am I doomed to ever roam?
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' on.

Questions I have many, answers but a few.
But we're here to learn, the spirit burns, to know the greater truth.
We've all been crucified and they nailed Jesus to the tree.
And when I'm born again, you're gonna see a change in me.

God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain.
Redemption comes in many shapes with many kinds of pain.
Oh sweet Jesus if you're listening, keep me ever close to you.
As I'm stumblin', tumblin', wonderin', as I'm travelin' thru.

I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru.
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru.

Oh sometimes the road is rugged, and it's hard to travel on.
But holdin' to each other, we don't have to walk alone.
When everything is broken, we can mend it if we try.
We can make a world of difference, if we want to we can fly.

Goodbye little children, goodnight you handsome men.
Farewell to all you ladies and to all who knew me when.
And I hope I'll see you down the road, you meant more than I knew.
As I was travelin', travelin', travelin', travelin', travelin' thru.

I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin'.
Drifting like a floating boat and roaming like the wind.
Oh give me some direction Lord, let me lean on you.
As I'm travelin', travelin', travelin', thru.

I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru.
I'm just travelin', travelin', travelin', I'm just travelin' thru.

Like the poor wayfaring stranger that they speak about in song.
I'm just a weary pilgrim trying to find my own way home.
Oh sweet Jesus if you're out there, keep me ever close to you.
As I'm travelin', travelin', travelin', as I'm travelin' thru.

Ode to Joy, 'Jupiter' from Holst's Planet Suite...lots of classical pieces. Grace Kelly (Mika), Tubthumping (Chumbawamba), I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) (The Proclaimers).

Actually, three of my favourite hope-inspiring pieces that I've been listening to a lot recently are Adiemus (), In Caelum Fero () and Cantus Inaequalis (). The words don't mean anything, it's all about the music (and I heard them before I saw the clips that accompany them). Amaté Adea () is beautiful as well, but really not good to listen to if you're a bit depressed. If you're happy but peaceful, however, it's lovely.

Let's Face It - Tim Christensen

It's OK to be blue
No one can take the memories away from you
It's alright to be sad
as longs as you hold on to the dreams you have

It's alright to be down
Your rollercoaster will soon be upward bound
It's OK you should know
Tomorrow will be there for you even though

Let's face it
Nothing could ever replace it
It's wasted
But something else will come along

It's alright to be alone
Nobody else could fit into your bones
You're no freak, it's OK
It's only natural that I hear you say

It's wasted
Nothing could ever replace it
Let's face it
But something else will come along

When the lifeline's slipping through your hands
It's a matter of holding on though no one understands
It's a matter of being who you are
So stand up now, don't you let them tear your soul apart
Go on, you superstar

It's alright in the end
It's where you're going, not where you have been
All in all, it's OK
It's only natural that I hear you say

It's wasted
Nothing could ever replace it
Let's face it
But something else will come along

Let's face it
Nothing could ever replace it
It's wasted
But something else will come along

Makes me cry every time, 'cause I just feel it's sung 'for me'. In fact, pretty much all of Tim Christensen's songs speak to me...like Secrets on Parade...Stranger...Don't leave me, but leave me alone...

So, face it, you've wasted a lot of years trying to be someone you weren't, now look ahead and pray that something else will come along...and it will, if you just hold on ^.^

Lift Every Voice and Sing
a.k.a. the Negro National Anthem, the African American National Hymn
written in 1900
words by James Weldon Johnson (1871–1938)
music by John Rosamond Johnson (1873–1954)

Lift every voice and sing, till earth and Heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet,
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered;
Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who hast by Thy might, led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee.
Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee.
Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand,
True to our God, true to our native land.
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

Illusion by VNV Nation:

I know it's hard to tell how mixed up you feel
Hoping what you need is behind every door
Each time you get hurt I don't want you to change
Because everyone has hopes
You're human after all
The feeling sometimes..wishing you were someone else
Feeling as though you never belong
This feeling is not sadness, this feeling is not joy
I truly understand
Please, don't cry now

Chorus:
Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to hate for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion trying to change you
Please don't go, I want you to stay
I'm begging you please, please don't leave here
I don't want you to change for all the hurt that you feel
The world is just illusion always trying to change you

Being like you are
Well this is something else, who would comprehend?
But some they do
Lay claim that Divine purpose blesses them
That's not what I believe
It doesn't matter anyway
A part of your soul ties you to the next world or maybe to the last
I'm still not sure
What I do know, is to us the world is different
As we are to the world, but I guess you would know that

(Chorus)

My Way

And now the end is near
So I face the final curtain
My friend, Ill say it clear
Ill state my case of which Im certain

Ive lived a life thats full
Ive traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way

Regrets, Ive had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exception

I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
Oh, and more, much more than this
I did it my way

Yes, there were times, Im sure you know
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way

Ive loved, Ive laughed and cried
Ive had my fails, my share of losing
And now as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way
Oh, no, no not me
I did it my way

For what is a man, what has he got
If not himself, then he has not
To say the words he truly feels
And not the words he would reveal
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way

There's a free internet radio station I listen to that often boardcasts inspirational songs :)

http://inewage.com/happyday/

I'll put a warning though, it doesn't always put up inspirational songs, and none of the songs have lyrics. But for me, that's the beauty of it, being able to close your eyes and feel the emotion without even hearing a single word...

Kara Lee

Nathan, love that song, thank you for showing it to me.
I love listening to "You Raise Me Up" and thinking of people that have helped me out in my life.
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -- Benjamin Franklin

You're welcome, Kara. :)  Probably a more inspirational song from them would be Carry You, off of the same album. VNV get a little preachy sometimes, but they're always there when you need a pick-me-up.

This one really inspired me when I first heard it:

Sixx:AM "Life is Beautiful"

You can't quit until you try
You can't live until you die
You can't learn to tell the truth
Until you learn to lie

You can't breathe until you choke
You gotta laugh when you're the joke
There's nothing like a funeral to make you feel alive

Just open your eyes
Just open your eyes
And see that life is beautiful.
Will you swear on your life,
That no one will cry at my funeral?

I know some things that you don't
I've done things that you won't
There's nothing like a trail of blood
to find your way back home

I was waiting for my hearse
What came next was so much worse
It took a funeral to make me feel alive

Just open your eyes
Just open your eyes
And see that life is beautiful.
Will you swear on your life,
That no one will cry at my funeral? x4

Paolo Nutini - Million Faces

Oh the phone you know it never stops, it's the last thing I hear at night
And the first thing I hear in the morning.
And as I start to let it burn my head, you slowly creep into bed
And i'm done talking
You say you know how i'm feeling, I just need to try to settle down

Oh a million faces pass my way
Oh they're all the same, nothing seem to change anytime I look around
Oh who knows just what the future holds
All I want to know is if it's with you

Tired as hell and falling up the stairs, filled with a thousand cares as you walk out from the bedroom
Though it feels like all my fire has gone, you just turn me on
Can't believe how much I want you
You say you know how i'm feeling, I just need to try to settle down

Oh a million faces pass my way
Oh they're all the same, nothing seem to change anytime I look around
Oh who knows just what the future holds
All I want to know is if it's with you

We're distracted by the hard times, and the troubles that we make
Let us throw them in the ocean, let it wash our cares away
Oh the phone you know it never stops, it's the last thing I hear at night
And the first thing in the morning

Oh a million faces pass my way
Oh they're all the same, nothing seem to change anytime I look around
Oh who knows just what the future holds
All I want to know is if it's with you

We're distracted by the hard times, and the troubles that we make
Let us throw them in the ocean, let it wash our cares away
Oh the phone you know it never stops, it's the last thing I hear at night
And the first thing in the morning

Let it wash our cares away, let it wash our cares away...

Mnemosyne

This appeared as a moral dilemma
Cause at first it was weird though I swore to eliminate
The worst of the plague that devoured humanity
It's true I was vague on the 'How'
so how can it be that you have shown me the light?

It's a brand new day
And the sun is high
All the birds are singing
That you're gonna die

How I hesitated
Now I wonder why
It's a brand new day

All the times that you beat me unconscious I'll forgive
All the crimes Incomplete, listen honestly I'll live
Mr. Cool, Mr. Right, Mr. Knowitall is through
Now my future's so bright and I owe it all to you Who showed me the light

It's a brand new me
I've got no remorse
Now the water's rising but I know the course
I'm gonna shock the world
Gonna Show Bad Horse
It's a Brand New Day

And Penny will see the evil me
Not a joke not a dork not a failure
And she may cry but her tears will dry
When I hand her the keys to a shiny new Australia.

It's a brand new day
Yeah the sun is high
All the angels sing
Because you're gonna die

Go ahead and laugh
Yeah I'm a funny guy
Tell everyone goodbye
It's a brand new day
