A media sensation was created on December 1, 1952 when the New York Daily News carried a front-page story (under the headline "Ex-GI Becomes Blonde Beauty") announcing that in Denmark, Jorgensen had become the recipient of the first "sex change". I remember seeing here on one of the local late night talk shows in the 70's.  I was enraptured.

She sang "I Enjoy Being a Girl!"

She was such a brave soul, who also could not stay in the burning building.

I am proud to be her daughter in spirit.
