CHICAGO GAY HISTORY: In the news

These days, we take for granted the news worthiness of LGBT topics.
Gender identity gets left out of the latest draft of the Employment
Non-Discrimination Act, and the ensuing battle for transgender
inclusion becomes a mainstream news story. Same-sex marriage, "don't
ask, don't tell," the use of the "F" word as a slur by a television
star: These all get splashed across the pages of print media or become
fodder for nighttime television commentary.
