Tried to tell a friend...

Has this happened to anyone?

I was driving home from a gig with a friend (not an extremely close one, used to be the singer in my band) and the conversation presented an opportunity for me to tell her I'm transgendered...and she flat out would not believe me!

I mean, I have a history of screwing around with her and testing her gullibility (she's a singer, sometimes it's too easy) but I would have thought maybe she'd connect the dots between what I was telling her and the obvious changes in my appearance combined with the last resort of actually showing her the HRT drugs.

Nope, she thought it was a joke. I'm not stressed over it or anything - I mean, she'll believe it sooner or later - just thought it was pretty funny after the amount of worrying that you can do about someones reaction and something like that happens...

Any similar humourous reactions/stories?

That's a good one! Let's all hope for more reactions like that.  :D

My boss didn't believe me at first. He honestly thought it was a joke, even though I'd handed him a letter from my therapist. It took a number of "no, seriously's..." from me before it started to sink in.

That happened to me with one person.  He just grinned at me and said "I'm transexual too!".  And even after several "no, really's" he didn't fully believe.  I didn't get to say much because of that, didn't even say my name.  But the next weekend when he saw me as Val he came up to me, said "I hear your name is Val.  It's really good to meet you."

I had one friend that did the, "Really?" "This ((the transition letter)) is for real?"

He has been very accepting. :)

Sorry to raise a dead topic but there's been an interesting twist in this story:

The friend I tried to tell is now living with us. She believes me now, and wants to teach me makeup and stuff.

So yeah...lost the recording studio (her room now) but gained a very useful ally  ;D

Heheh. I told my best friend and she believed it. She suspected it (or something similar) for quite some time.

Mine had no idea, wish I'd had a camera for the facial expressions  :o
