patch problem

i seem to have a problem with pathes.they seem to irritate my skin.it looks like burnt. is this normal.how can i avoid that?

This is a frequently occuring problem.  When you remove the patch, immediately apply a moisurizing skin cream.  If this does not give you sufficient relief, talk to your doctor.

The most common cause of unusual irritation under the patch is if you allow water to get in.  If the manufacturer of the patch has not stated that it is waterproof, then avoid getting it wet at all costs.  Even if it is waterproof, be sure that all the edges are sealed.  Water leakage is a bigger problem for once a week patches than for twice a week patches.

You could also be allergic to the adhesive which is used to secure the patch.

I have an allergy to certain plasters (band aids) and after SRS I had some real problems down below with the plasters used to keep the catheter attached to my leg.

I am allergic to patches of all kinds.  I am not sure if it is the transdermal effect or the adhesive.  I tried everything.  If you find out let me know then I can use the nicotine patches again.

I've been wearing patches for years.  Sometimes the skin gets irritated.  When it does I move it to a fresh spot.  I've never heard the water theory but it sounds plausible.  I had more trouble with the generics than Climara brand patches, which are water proof to the extent that they can be reapplied if hey come loose in the shower.  Cortisone cream on the effected area clears it right up.  Estroderm is a twice a week patch which may also help.
