Even after a sex change, marriage is for life

The man, who was born in 1929, married 56 years ago and fathered three
adult children, has felt for many years that he was really a woman,
but he has an intact marriage he does not want to abandon, the court
heard.
Judges said it was unfair to expect someone to give up marriage, which
enjoyed special constitutional protection, in order to claim other
legal rights. The court said marriage was a lifelong bond.
