Maybe they just couldnt think of the right phrase?
They have a bunch of young transmen on set to help them with that stuff.
By covering a topic that affects a minority group, they should at least be looking up the correct terms for stuff like this. Otherwise there's gonna be another YouTube outburst of angry transmen.

yeah i know it was said slightly tongue in cheek. Although have you actually tried talking with your tongue in your cheek?

Was talking about this on another forum and one person was adamant that trans characters in soaps should be played by trans people, I'm not sure as I think that the whole idea of acting is pretending to be something that your not, but would admit that it would help with having more visible trans people in the media, so I'm just going to throw it out there. What do people think about this?

only trouble with that is would a transperson at any stage in their transition want to go back and act out an earlier stage when its something theyve left behind in real life

Characters are played by actors.  It's a marketable skill from a way back.  You don't have to 'be' anything to play a role if you're good enough.  What you really want is trans-actors playing normal roles, and normal actors playing trans roles - then you'd have acceptance.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

In the U.S. the only show I have seen/know to tackle such an subject more accurately than most was "The L Word" (Then again, that whole show was dealing with the 'taboo' subjects of LGBT, though mainly L).

Degrassi also has an ftm character named Adam; I haven't seen much, but they seem to deal with it fairly well.
