Everyone should vote! Unfortunately there are issues that sometimes make it difficult for trans people to vote. Don't let these barriers stop you from voting—you have a right to vote. Trans people may find voting to be an intimidating process for many reasons. Below are trans-specific reasons; on the following pages are other situations that may arise for some transgender people.

I will reregister to vote when I legally change my name.

However, I will still be "Sara" and "Female" legally for the 2008 election in November. I will not be intimidated by this; that name and that specification are simply labels the country knows me by. They don't know me as "Daniel, Male" because I haven't told them yet. So I feel no major threat in voting as "Sara." It's just a name.

Fortunately, my ID does look quite boy-ish. I took it after I started cross dressing. :)

I don't face trans discrimination very much because most people either assume I'm a boy or think I'm a lesbian. I do run into homophobes sometimes.
