Arrest made in Colo transgender slaying

Allen Ray Andrade, 31, faces several charges, including second-degree murder in the death of Justin Zapata, 20, who was known as Angie Zapata. Her bloodied, battered body was discovered in her apartment by her sister on July 17.

Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck said he was considering filing first-degree murder charges and may prosecute the death as a hate crime, which adds another felony charge.

This one ya can definitely try as an adult.

Maybe at the "pound" court. The idiot called her "it" during his confession!! *shakes head* And Focus On the Family is worried about people like Angie in a toilet with "the opposite sex"?!! It's just so sick!!

It just totally disgusts me.

I did this google search to gaffle up as many of the most recent stories I could:

More than a third refer in the lede or bridge to Angie as a man posing as a woman, and a majority of those were filed by an Associated Press writer.

Well, what can you do?  It's a dangerous game, dating men and having "relations" with them without telling them that you're pre-op.

Not that her unethical choices justify her murder, of course not, but it certainly doesn't shock me that a man would do such a thing to her.

Murder is rare, overall, and should be shocking. Nothing ever excuses murder (which is very different from taking someone's life for self defense).

Plus I think there is more to this story still to come out.

I hear that the prosecuter will try to get him for first degree murder. I don't think he will get that but he should. I don't think he planned at first to kill her but after he hit her then he had presence of mind to back off and go away. If he had any smarts at all, he would have just left and chocked it up to being more careful and both people would have lived.

I just wish that while girls are in the pre op stage, they should be more careful of who they date. There are guys out there that get angry and will kill. I think we have seen this scenario more times than we wish. It is very saddening to see a young girl, who has a whole lifetime ahead of her, lose her life just to have a date.

My heart goes out to her and her family. My prayers will be with them and others.

What a heart-wrenching story! Some peeps can be quite intolerant of trans folk in some areas there. Her killer needs to spend the rest of his life in prison, but they've got to recognise and address the underlying causes of hate crimes if they're going to prevent them in the future.

I've been copying/pasting the 'comments' left at some of the news sites.  I have friends and acquaintances that are shocked when they see some of the dehumanizing things some commenters write and post.
