I've just been warned that "this topic has not been posted in for at least 30 days." If anyone reads this, my question would be: what are the men wearing OVER the tights? I mean, if they're ones like Barbie is wearing, of course, they'd work on their own. But other than those running/bicycling things, I haven't noticed any men here in the Northeast wearing tights nor ads promoting them. Granted, Philadelphia is not NY or San Francisco, but still . . . it's not Mississippi--where it's too hot to wear tights anyway. I have to wonder if maybe all those men aren't buying them for wives and girlfriends. So many girls seem to just throw on a pair of jeans for everything, but if you take the time to provide the appropriate accessories, they would seem awfully ungrateful NOT to put on a skirt. (They should only realize how lucky they are--it's been decades and I still haven't reached the point where I take that delightful swish of a skirt against my legs for granted!) Anyway, unless these men are wearing the tights and hose under their traditional trousers, or perhaps exposed under regular male shorts as a way of extending their wearability into fall, (Can someone explain to me the rationale for wearing big bulky sweaters on top of shorts and bare legs? Is it a jock thing or what?), they would need to buy skirts to go with them. Wouldn't they?
One other note: Someone mentioned men in colonial times. At that point, men were already wearing the knee breeches that would develop into full-length trousers in the next century or so. The height of leg exposure was the Middle Ages/Rennaissance when ALL they often wore were tights, with the infamous cod piece--the Medieval equivalent of the Wonder Bra! Ah, those were the days! When men were men, but dressed like women!
