Bullies and Confidence

Why the lack of confidence? As I related last week, I had my hair done by a gay male hairdresser who commented on my high forehead and ensured an ample supply of 'sirs' were directed my way despite my efforts that day to present as female (yes, sir, my boobs are real...). That combined with my wife's consistently voiced opinion that I look like a freak right now made me a little reluctant to brave the world as myself at all this week. So, with some trepidation, I went to the mall with a blouse that fit, some lipstick and a bit of mascara... and I passed! No one harassed me, no one spent an inordinate amount of time gawking at me and no one 'sirred' me. I even had to go past the inevitable gauntlet of teenage girls at the entrance to mall and I passed by them without one snide comment! Success never felt so special but so normal at the same time!!
