This morning I'm questioning the word "transgendered." It's a nice word, much nicer than "transvestite," which sound like an obscure disease or something. But the word contains, I think, a hidden assumption, which is that my anatomy is the primary determinant of who and what I am, while my gender identity is secondary.

In an ideal world it wouldn't matter that I'm a woman who just happened to be born with a male body.

In an ideal world, nobody would pay my voice any attention. I've taken professional lessons — I get ma'am'ed on the telephone as often as I get sirred, so the voice ain't perfect. But anyway, in an ideal world...

In an ideal world people wouldn't comment that Angie got what was coming to 'him'.

In an ideal world, women who were born male wouldn't get maliciously outed, harassed, fired. Women with a trans history wouldn't have to go stealth for fear of being outed/harassed/fired.

In an ideal world, women of trans history would never have to worry about prostate cancer.
