To be certain, there are drawbacks to our society's current obsession with celebrities and the dozens of websites and magazines devoted to covering their every move. The fact that many of us pay more attention to TomKat and Brangelina than Iraq and Afganistan immediately comes to mind.

But sometimes, there's a silver lining, like last weekend, when talk host Ellen DeGeneres and actress Portia de Rossi wed at an intimate ceremony at their California home.
