I've dealt with Deb Wilke.  I have found her to be a very good therapist and quite understanding and non-judgemental.  She also works with WPATH and can write your letter when it is time and recomend a second therapist for your second letter.

Here is a link to her site:
http://www.compassionatecounseling.com

Also note that we have a wiki here and there are therapists listed there by state.

If you have some specific questions about the type of therapy you want, send me a PM as I don't necessarily like to endorse on a public list because it can cause the topic to drift.

Thanks, Kassandra. The therapist I went to in November recommended Caroline Schneider, and I was hoping to learn more about her. I would have sent you a PM about her, but I don't have the ability to send messages yet.

Thanks for your PM Kassandra...I wasn't able to respond though. I am in Chicago in the northern parts so I would prefer someone up there.

"I currently work at Howard Brown Health Clinic in Chicago. Howard Brown is the midwest's largest health center serving the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community. feel free to check out our website at : http://www.howardbrown.org. I began my work with the Transgendered community during my graduate training years and my research focused on documenting the gender experiences of my participants and considering how therapists could be more open to gender experiences. i have been working with the Trans community for about 5 years now and enjoy my work very much. I know a lot of my clients hear of me by word-of-mouth. but, they also report many attempts to access an understanding and open therapist by looking online and are frustrated by the small lists for their area and the typically high costs of private practice therapists. One aspect of Howard Brown that is especially helpful to my clients is that we offer a sliding fee scale, which means we match the fee to their income. So money is no longer a deterrent to access the support that everyone should be entitled to. In addition, at Howard Brown, I work with a number of other highly supportive therapists who have experience supporting the Trans community."

I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and find it distressing that nearly all the therapist that we can find are in Chicago.  That is a very long round trip to take at any time of the day.  The others are in very far flung suburbs (Evanston, Highland Park, Flossmoor, somewhere near Wisconsin).  I know Deb Wilke is out here, and I've had sessions with her, but I wish I had more options.  Right now, I'm seeing a psychologist in Downers Grove who has worked with gays, but I'm her first transgender patient.  She has been very supportive, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like to work with someone with lots of experience.  I wish one of these therapist would move to Woodrige or Lisle!

I should modify these thought to include that many therapists in the area will tell you that they have had transgender patients, but that they are not their sole clientele.
