Being trans is scary. I do not mean that in the "we are all self-hating, poor widdle victims" way. But I'm scared. There's transphobia. Violence against trans people. Needing to disclose very personal and intimate things to your doctors or therapists. Sexism and gender stereotypes. Body issues. Legal issues. Outing. Changes in your body. Changes in the way you are being treated by society. "Passing" (or lack thereof). Surgery, which, to be honest, really scares the ->-bleeped-<- out of me. It's a long journey, a rocky path, it takes ages and saps energy, it makes me feel incredibly vulnerable. It's scary.
