It revolved around the NPA's hamhanded approach to licensing pubs for LGBT people in the West End. The NPA was obliterated in the 2002 election.

Flash forward six years and the NPA could find itself in a similar pickle.

The party has refused to allow a dedicated community activist, Jamie Lee Hamilton, to seek a party nomination for park board.

The job pays peanuts. Hamilton, who generated support for Peter Ladner's mayoral-nomination campaign, says she was told that she couldn't be a candidate because she has been a sex-trade worker and she placed an ad on an on-line transsexual Web site.
