Hi!

As part of my learning curve, I'd like to know a little about how Susan's Place TG Wiki is used and how it's perceived by our community.  Please feel free to comment, suggest and/or criticize (constructively would be best) the Wiki and its ease of use, its importance your journey as a trans person and your thoughts on its usefulness in general.

Thank you!!

Another poll choice no.4 chooser

Biggest problem I see is the amount of copy-paste from wikipedia. That and (some) important articles being one step above "stub" status, especially the GRS pages.

Yes there is a bunch of content from Wikipedia on Susan's Wiki,
but if that's all we wanted to do it would be easier just to mirror Wikipedia.

There are a lot of articles that it just makes more sense to copy out of Wikipedia.
Is there a need to write our own article on follicle-stimulating hormone?
By "pruning" the Wikipedia articles we can keep the user focused on transgender themes
instead of having links to "human" or "bus station" in every sentence.
We can also use terms like "drag" without disambiguating them "drag (clothing)"

Yes there is a need for new practical articles on everything transgender.

Agreed

That said, a question which I should have just asked in my first post is on the medical articles.
I made it mostly clear that I thought there wasn't enough information, but on the flip side when is it too much information?

What is the happy middle ground between... (using F2M reassignment as an example)

Ok, problem cleared up, but in the future, the search box can be a good place to start.
We make a lot of effort to have something sensible come up when somebody types something in.

For example, searching for:
Cross-dress, Cross-dresser, Crossdress, Crossdresser, Crossdressing, Cross dress, Cross dresser, Cross dressing or CD
will all direct you to the article on Cross-dressing.

You could have found the articles on HRT by typing HRT in the search box.

Actually, the wiki was instrumental in providing a collection of information to my HR group to educate them on the issues of being transsexual.

It saved them quite a bit of time for having to surf themselves and without having to wade through all the she-male porn.

Also, I do appreciate having as much information as possible.  Even if it is quite technical.  Additional entries can also be added to give more introductory information.

I read every entry in the wiki in my preparation for my transition and found it quite helpful.  Yes there are other articles in wikipedia that could be cross referenced and maybe that might be a good idea.  However some of the articles here have been written by Susan's own people and give a personal point of view to their experience.  Those I think are quite valuable.
