What's In A Name?

"Although the effulgence of the moon is brilliant initially at night, in the daytime it fades away. Similarly, although the lotus is beautiful during the daytime, at night it closes. But, O My friend, the face of My most dear one is always bright and beautiful, both day and night. Therefore, to what can Her face be compared?" (Vidagdha-madhava 5.20)

Yes, my name is unusual, at least here in the West. There's an Australian actress who shares it. According to a web search I did about six months ago there is a woman in the Portland, OR, area who also shares it. Otherwise, I seem to share a name with tons of women, old and young in India. Second most populous country in the world, so perhaps my name isn't as unusual as I think.

I've been asked where it derives and why I chose it. That, maybe is the question I have been asked more than any other over the past few years. So, in the aftermath of a very full and wonderful Labor Day weekend, I decided to write today about my name.
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde
