Fifteen-year-old Alex is a hermaphrodite and the subject of
writer-director Lucia Puenzo's compelling excursion to the shadow
world between female and male. Living with her/his parents on the
Uruguayan coast, the socially isolated teenager (Ines Efron,
excellent) is visited by family friends. The visiting couple's teenage
boy finds himself drawn into an uneasy relationship with Alex.
