Is It an Addiction?

Is crossdressing an addiction? That depends on how you do it, and also on how we define "addiction."
There's apparently some controversy in the therapeutic community about whether compulsive behaviors that have no chemical component (gambling, for instance) qualify as addictions. Ultimately, this may be a semantic argument: If it's messing up your life, and you'd like to stop but you can't, I think we may as well call it an addiction. Also, it's known that the brain releases chemicals that modify its own behavior. I suppose one might become addicted to those chemicals. If you constantly engage in thrill-seeking behavior, we may as well call you an adrenaline junkie and get on with the treatment.
