Here's a sad story of violence in the heartland, but the assailant has been charged with a hate crime. That's more than what can be said for the assault in Denver that was shrugged off by a cop (and backed up in court).

Sander "Sam" O'Dale Johnson, 18, of 912 24th St. in Des Moines, was arrested for assault with a hate crime and violation of individual rights, records show.
