Man accused of killing transgendered woman appears in court

Greeley Tribune
9/18/2008

A man accused of beating a transgendered woman to death told his
girlfriend in a phone call that he "snapped" and that "gay things need
to die."

The phone calls made by Allen Andrade, charged in the murder of the
transgender woman Angie Zapata, while in jail to his girlfriend
detailed that something bad had happened and that Andrade had made a
mistake.

What's scary is how pervasive that attitude is amoungst men... the need to dehumanize us into ITS and THINGS.

It's weird how hung up on the concept of being a "real" woman they are. Although I guess to be fair, so are a lot of us. But with men, it seems they'll never *allow* us to be real. They always fall back on some "evidence" to justify their horror, such as how the genitals are just a replica, or are chromosomes can't be changed or whatever. But I KNOW that even if we actually changed our chromosomes, they'd just find something else. "Once a man, always a man."

So what do you do? You tell them upfront, and STILL risk getting beat up for being "deceptive." You tell them on a date, and REALLY risk getting beat up for making them "date a man." Don't tell them ever, and live with that fear of being discovered... plus that just seems wrong, ethically.

You just can't win, unless you find someone who LIKES the fact you're TS. But... that's not what I'd want, should it ever come to me actively looking.

Quote from: article"Angie gave me the power to not care what people thought of me," friend Angie Portillo, a lesbian, said at the service. "She always
just wanted to be who she was, and that was female and to be loved."
