Just what is so scary about same-sex marriage?

I just finished reading Stephen Hayford's Sept. 12 letter defending the stance of state Sen. James Seward, who vehemently opposes same-sex marriage rights. Mr. Hayford seems to feel that individuals like the senator are not bigots, but merely are concerned with saving the traditional definition of marriage. He brings out the same tired arguments that those on the religious right always use regarding this subject, essentially saying that same-sex marriage opens the door to polygamy and, God forbid, the mention of gay people in schools as more than just subjects of ridicule.
