Diane Schroer: Transgender Lawsuit Winner

The details of the court case are straightforward. David Schroer applied and interviewed for a job at the Library of Congress as a man. When offered the job, he told the hiring manager that he would be reporting to work under his new identity as a woman, Diane Schroer. At that point or shortly thereafter the offer was rescinded. The events sound like a setup for the case that followed.
The fact that this is a public entity, the Library of Congress, makes this an easy case for me. When our tax dollars are going to fund government pork projects and bloated payrolls, the only proper criteria is merit. Can the person do the job or not. The public should get the most value for their tax dollars.
Private enterprise is, or should be but isn't, an entirely different matter. Private businesses should be able to hire whomever they want for a job. A Chinese restaurant should be able to hire exclusively chinese waiters if that is how they want to market their business. A nightclub should be able to hire exclusively hot young DJs. A gay bathhouse should be able to hire exclusively gay men if that is what works for their business.
