Local: RuPaul

In 1987, RuPaul lived in a small Midtown apartment, danced on a go-go
box at Weekends on Peachtree Street and barely afforded rent.
From the early '80s until he moved to New York in '87, he was an
institution in Atlanta's gay scene. He plastered fliers of himself
wearing a jockstrap and hair extensions ("RuPaul is Everything") on
telephone poles, and spent hours waving from the porch of his Midtown
apartment above a billowing bedsheet with his seasonal message
Kryloned in red: "This Summer, RuPaul is Red-Hot."
