CHARDON -- A 40-year-old transgender woman is being held on $50,000 bond after she was charged with contributing to the drowning death of her husband.

Chris Newton-John, also known as Chris Mason and formerly known as John
Vallandingham, was charged with reckless homicide.

Newton-John, of Middlefield, was charged with trying to block her husband, James
Mason, 73, from leaving the pool at their apartment complex when he became
terrified of the water in June.
