Of Renaissance Faires and Creative Anachronism

Sunday was a lovely day in southeastern Pennsylvania. The sun shown; there was a crispness in the air that spoke of Autumn, the harvest. There was excitment in the house. Mostly that excitement began as a complaint against being awakened at seven a.m. by my youngest son who rather enjoys sleeping until nine or nine-thirty on a Sunday. Yet, he clambered from bed and soon became quite engrossed in preparing himself to travel.

In a sort of early Halloween we'd made plans with our friend Robin and her daughter to drive out to Mt. Hope, between Lancaster and Hershey, to attend the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. Both boys decided to go, seventeen-year old Aubrey making the decision that being "bored" there and with others was preferable to being at home and "bored" alone. Ah, the child discovers the joys of relationship after being in some sort of dingy basement of the soul for the past five years. Doncha just love those early teen years?
