Schools send message: No tolerance for bullies

A menu-style board in the assistant principal's office window reminds the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders when they walk by. And the number of reported incidents on the sign -- which usually grows during the week -- reminds them that the bullies among them can't hide. Not anymore.

Students know they can tell Assistant Principal Chad Soupir in an anonymous note about what happened to them, and he'll take care of it.

"We're finally starting to see some of the kids who get bullied are speaking up for themselves," Soupir said. "They're getting supported, and the bully is listening to how they feel."

This past week -- Nebraska's School Bullying Awareness Week -- gave schools across the state a chance to highlight that message loud and clear.
