How do you get a good suit?  I've heard they have to be tailored.  Does that mean custom-made?  And how much do you typically have to pay to get a suit that looks good on you?

Suits are usually sold as a unit, but they are comprised of two separates, the trousers and the coat (three if there is a vest). The trousers and coats are sized by the waist measurement and the chest measurement, respectively. The trousers of men's suits are usually not hemmed. They will measure your inseam and hem them to the proper length or you can take them to a tailor who will do the same. They can alter the length of the coat sleeves as well.

So you go to a store and pick out the two pieces and then they adjust them to fit you?

You could also try the Mens Warehouse.  They carry suits and offer tailoring.

Thanks, Janet.  That sounds like a good place to start.  Large, inexpensive store = not so intimidating.
