So where do women or CD's with big feet go to get shoes? I wear size 10.5 in US mens (44 European, according to the Dansko clogs I have) which would be 12 US womens. I tried on some 11's ... or I should say I tried to try on some 11's but they wouldn't fit.

I didn't have the car today, just my bike. But, I still hit all the places I could think of here in San Mateo: Payless, Macy's Mervyn's Shoe Pavillion, Ross, TJ Max, Marshalls, Sears and Target. Payless was the only place that had women's 12's, and they didn't have anything I was looking for.

I have sneakers, I'm looking for ankle boots (but I'm beginning to think I'll have to settle for knee boots) with low heals.

Any of the SF Bay Area CDs (calling Tekla, come in Tekla) have any suggestions for the area? I'd like to stay under $100 if possible, but I need size 12.

Is online really my best choice? I'd prefer to try them on before I buy them.

Hi Shades'...

I am only a 9 in the UK, but I found that a lot of womens 9's didn't fit..

The trick seems to be to look for the womens "wider fit" ranges here, so I guess it's probably the same in the US...

In other words a 9 is a euro 43 but will not fit, a 9 or euro wide 43 will fit...

I guess it's a matter of lookin' for the right store... wider fits tend to be in the "plus size" stores I'm afraid...so it's get in..grab 'em and get out.... ;D

Cool, Michell. Thanks for the link.

I'm not sure what type of shoe you are looking? It is hard if not impossible to find larger sizes in stores. I wear a men's 10 but for some reason I can easily wear a women's 11 but they go quickly and I often miss out. I like to wear heels and I buy most of them from Frederick's of Hollywood. http://www.fredericks.com/Almost every style they carry goes to a size 12 and they have several 13's to choose from. They are well made and not over priced. Another online shoe store I have used is called http://www.candlelightfashions.com/  They have heels that go to 17! Good luck!

Nordstrom's Rack always hase a good selection of larger shoes, at least in Seattle.  Not sure about size 12, but lots of 11's.

You might want to try shoes.com they have free shipping and returns. They have about 20 size 12 boots.

There wasn't a Walmart in easy biking distance from San Mateo; but I had thought of it.

I'll check Zappos, too.

I haven't gotten around to shoes yet. I really don't want any high heels. I wouldn't dare go out in public with anything overtly female because I would just look pathetic and stupid and I couldn't live with myself if I tried it.

I might try some other shoes for around the house though. I'm still working on other stuff. Going barefoot with pink toes will have to do for now. My feet are small and pretty anyway. I can give myself a nice pedicure. Women have commented on how nice my feet are. I try to keep them up. I see women with ugly feet who can't wear open toed shoes and I guess I feel fortunate in that respect. LOL, it's about all I have going for me.

My word. If you want to be like all the gen fems in the world, you must learn to cram your feet into shoes which are clearly too small, and then hobble around in them with a forced smile on your face. Heels are a must. Pretty soon you won't be bothering with shoe stores; that little motorized chair will get you almost anyplace you need to go. Despite your mangled dogs, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you were fashionable, if only for a night!

Actually, I was going to say Payless, too. Their stock turns over regularly, keep checking.

Yes...same problem here, I'm a mens size 10.5 US.
Payless and Walmart carry womens 11 and 12 wide in several
styles, and most will stretch out after a day or two of wearing.

I also use a 'shoe tree' device that fit's inside and stretches the pair over
several days, depending on how much room you will need.

High heeled pumps are my absolute favorite!
They really put my posture into the femme mode and keep it there
as there is only one way to walk in them!

I'm kinda dreading even thinking about this, to be honest, because my feet should, ideally, have Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet hanging off the back of them. :-\

Just gimme the hacksaw now... *sigh*

I'm a 9.5, which is nice, its on the small size for a guy, sometimes I find 11 or 12 (wide) at Payless.  But I like this catalog I get, and have bought two pair from them, but I'm going to have to dig to find it.

From a woman in retail shoes..the rule of thumb is 2 size difference.  If you are say a 10 in men, you would be a size 8 wide or 9 wide in women's shoes..

Huh? If you wear a 10 in men's you'd wear a 12 in women's. Two sizes greater, not lesser.

How illogical is it in the US ... women's sizes different from men's ...  ??? ...

In UK there is rough "cross-read" between guy and girl sizes, just that guy's shoe's tend to be a bit more generous for room for a given size to allow for chunky socks rather than hose, knee highs, or the thinner hoisery we tend to wear.

I do encounter US sizing in Tk-Maxx and some department stores with a lot of their "designer" imports, and I know I'm between US Ladies 8 & 9 ... (UK 6 & 7, Continental 38 & 40).

So guess I'm lucky as I'm well within normal women's range ...  ;D ... no embarassment asking shop assistants for UK size 8 or 9  ...  :o ... (like US 10 or 11) which so few women wear ...

Guess my real nightmare is buying knee or calf high boots (which I love) as my foot width and arch is wide, yet my calves are really thin ... leaves me to resort to specialist retailers who size their calf fits to nearest half inch and do different foot widths ... and I end up paying $360 for a nice pair of boots which would be $220 in a normal shoe store !

OK prices a "crossdresser" would not be willing to pay, but for me an investment as I will be living in the selection of boots I buy hopefully for two winters before they go out of fashion or fall apart !

My feet are long, but thin. Usually the first thing I do after buying a new pair of shoes, is buy shorter shoelaces to go with them. Otherwise by the time I have the shoes tied tight enough so they won't slip, I'm tripping over the laces.

Hopefully, the thin feet thing will work in my favor.
