"Chickens have more rights than I do"

That quote appeared on a hand-written sign at the "No on 8" protest I attended tonight. Several thousand people gathered near West Hollywood park to listen to a range of speakers and protest the passage of Proposition 8, which will amend the State Constitution to legally define marriage as being between a man and a woman, overturning a State Supreme Court decision in favor of same-sex marriage.

The quote was as sad as it was funny (complete with a well-drawn picture of a chicken). It was referring to the passage of Proposition 2, which will require chicken farmers to make their chicken cages big enough for the fowl to lay down, spread their wings, turn around....and even do the "hokey pokey." So, with the passage of Props. 2 and 8, yes, chickens do - in a sense - have more rights than gay and lesbian people in the State of California. Way to go, Cali.
