As a Piscean, my symbol is the fish swimming in both directions at once. It fits.  ;D

I often feel like an M.C. Escher painting in which the stairs or waterfalls are going down and up at the same time, or birds are metamorphosing into shadows...

Zythyra

Precisely stated, opposing pisces especially. For me also when things are bleak:

"Run away train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track"

Will I get to where I am going, which is against everything I have been taught? If I make that step, I can never go back. Will I find happiness when I get there, or will I simply collide with my other life along the way?

this is really dark, Rebecca. for what it's worth, i think existence is everything. it is what we have to work with. and chances are, many of us have been dealt lousy hands. but that's ok. if the odds were not difficult, there would be little point in playing. why that is so, i am not sure. but it's easy to see that some who have been dealt very good hands end up with very very lousy lives.

Only in silence the word,
only in dark the light,
only in dying life:
bright the hawk's flight on the empty sky.
-The Creation of Éa

(From A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. LeGuin, The Creation of Éa tells how Segoy raised the islands of Earthsea from the ocean by naming them in the True Speech.)

In this Earthsea philosophy, which is a part of me, life and death are opposite sides of the same thing, much like the Celtic traditions. There can be no life without the absence of life. There can be no death without life. Together they create each other in the image of Ouroboros biting its own tail. And in that liminal space where the two meet, in birthing and dying, the sacred lies. It is a space where paradox becomes the norm. You are both right. Existence is futile, and existence is everything.

I'm sorry. I was trying to be funny. That last line is a play on the Borg motto - resistance is futile.

Really I was just saying 'don't worry and things will be fine'. I guess the Borg thing turns it all around.    ::)

Lizbeth said it better than I.

Now I have an idea for a record named 'suicide borg' - existence is futile.

Life is two ambulances rushing to separate hospitals... Head-on colliding on the freeway... For me at least.

Crash and burn as often as I have and there's no doubt about my metaphor; the Phoenix rising from the ashes of it's own destruction.
