Voice

One of my biggest public fears has to be the vocal aspect. I mean i know logicaly that my voice isn't super deep but it is distincaly male. Ive always been horrible at voice alteration and always envied my friends when we roleplayed who could do accents and impersinations. Whenever i try to practice I sound like a squeaky cartoon character. I think another reason this is such an issue for me is the fact that I like to play online mmos since the time of Ever Quest 1 and i used to have alot of fun roleplaying in a full female presona but in recent years the advent of voice chat communication like ventrillo and teamspeak has become a regular acceptance and practical requirement in online games. Many players already assume half the female characters are male so voice is one of the first introductions people get involving you and thus carries alot of wieght.I find it kind of ironic that with all the amazing technilogical advancements our society has made there still seems to be no reliable voice software alteration or devices that dont just distort it beyond all recognition. I guess that just shows how complex our vocal cords and sound manipulation truly is. Secondly I worry about the adams apple being spooted it seems to me that particular bit of information is more widely known by our society now a days (I blame hollywood ). For all of you with lots of experience with the public how often has that been spotted for you or do most people not pay that much attention.

I have worked at my voice and I have been told by several people that I sound very much as a woman.  And I am in retail, dealing with the public daily.  I have never gotten the reaction from peeps that I have be clocked because of my voice.

But it has been practice, practice, practice, practice, practice and more practice.  The phone is the best because they have no idea, just a name.   If the name and voice match, it 'Yes Ma am', 'I understand Miss' etc.

CandiFLA has a bunch of voice tutorials on Youtube that helped alot for me to "get it". She's brilliant at voice and has a fun, friendly and easily understandable style. Give it a try if you haven't yet.

Mine doesn't seem to out me. If someone was *looking* for it, sure... it's there. But people generally aren't looking for or expecting someone to be TS.

Yes i would haveto agree, while voice is considered paramount for sucessful transition we tend to play on its fears far more than the general public.

People really are not looking out for transfolk in general and far more accepting giving you time to perfect your art.
