Actually, the weird thing is, I started out taking hormones with that idea. I took one anti-androgen in the morning and another along with the estrogen in the evening. I thought it wasn't doing much because I kept giving my body weaker doses. I figured if I give my body one strong dose by taking both androgens and estrogen in the morning every day, it should work better.

Actually, it's the duration of the dosage which matters to better continually overcome the body's natural hormone production, and this is where lower dosages over longer periods during the day are supposed ot work better. One the single higher dosage wears off, usually after about 12 hours, and then there is less hrt in the system, but two split dosages often helps offset this problem with twice daily doses. It's not about the actual dosage but above a minimum the body needs to offset the natural hormones.

That's the theory, and everyone's mileage may vary, and this only really works when you're taking sufficiently high dosages. Splitting lower dosages doesn't often work because it's at or near the minimum to start, and only means the longer term effects take longer (weeks, months, years).

I try to avoid that if I can. It's near impossible to get in a consultation and going to the endocrinologist [quite a ways away] is a bit of a struggle considering I don't have a car - I would put my family through too much trouble. I've been on hormones for about 2 and 1/2 months now.

If its just finding out what your hormone levels are, can't you just ask your GP or nurse to arrange a blood test?
