People try to equal the two but I believe they are fundamentally different. I notice because when I used to tell people Im changin phsyically into a man, they respond with answers like," Ok and next youre gonna wanna be white too." And such. Plus, goin on a tangent, race and gender have different expectations. People are aware of steorytypes, but dont necessarily believe one should act as thier racial steorytype. However for gender, maybe its cause where I live, people expect that if youre a man, then you better damn well act as one and vice versa. But race its different, if youre black, they wouldnt expect you must sag and listen to whatever rap, or if youre white you gotta be into rock. Some people do, but its much less strict than sex.
Race is just an amount of melatin, I m aware theres a culture along with it, but it seems more like a choice, or what youre into. You choose how to dress, what to listen to, ect. But with sex, I think its more complicated than that, and the expectations placed on it are greater. Most people I ve met were always their gender first, then their race. Some didnt care about race at all, but were so passionate when it comes to gender. Maybe its has somethin to do with sexuality bein so god damn important, and that it ties into gender...but still.

Point  is they are treatin the entire idea of bein in the wrong body phyiscally of gender the same as wrong body for race. But could someone feel as though they were bornin into the wrong race? Or is it cause the restraints of race arent so harsh as gender that one might feel there would be no need to try and change their race so to speak.

Interesting topic, JD. Yeah, you can't be born into the wrong race. I think when people say that, it just means they like the culture or stereotypes of that race better.

I see people as human first. I am not motivated by sex so that does not count. I like intelligent people so that does count. Race is just not an issue but culture can cause problems.

I've heard similar arguments several times:
"If a man wanted to change into a dog or a tiger, we'd lock him up! Why are you any different, wanting to be a man instead of a woman?"
The simple answer is that gender is not equal to race or species - gender is something that is not defined by your DNA (though plenty of ignorant people still consider our chromosomes to be the be-all and end-all of gender - in which case, point them in the direction of kids with AIS).

This is how i always see it cause I think the entire concept of race is based on steorytypes, but then again, so are some aspects of gender. I really detest when people say I want to be a certain race cause of music or apperance, but then again, those people would say I want to be a certain gender cause of apperance, and music. They just cant understand the difference between the two, I mean ...hmm.... I thinkin on a physical level. I mean people transition because they want to look as the target gender, therefore bein accepted as that gender(apperance is actually probably one of the biggest part of what gender people concieve you as, especially if they dont know you.) Same with a steorytpye of race, if someone had the "right" skin color, then they would probably fit in better with a racial steorytpye if just looked at.  I try to explain how thier different but...

yeah. I can say not all people in that race act that way, their response is " So what? There are masucline woman. Why cant you be one of them." Or effimate men. It just goes Round and Round(damn Ratt song is stuck in my head)

Anyway, hopefully that made some sort of sense.  Feel free to disagree with me though if you feel I didn't take something into consideration.

That made lots of sense, I see where youre comin from, although there are always exception, some people just really feel they belong in a different culture to a point of obession. I have a couple of friends like that, they take culture appreication to an epic sort of level, and just wish they looked like the majority of people in that culture/race. But for the majority of people, what you said works just fine. Of course then again, so does the gender they were borne with. Ya know, I really dislike agruin with myself, but damn really though, race kind of has no meanin or significance, but gender does.

People are obessed with differences anyways, cause theyre afraid, interested, whatever... It seems like someone would overlook race before overlookin gender, unless theyre the super racists. People seem to bond with their fellow man/woman, no matter the race.

My example wasn't really meant for a mixed cultural setting.  That's why I didn't use the US as an example.  It's too diverse for my point.

I guess but it really doesnt matter, if the other non mixed places look at the US, maybe theyll wish they were whatever instead of what they are. And vice versa.

Today's wars are over culture. The U.S. has very definite cultures in parts of the country as well as among groups even in the same city. We tend to segregate into groups with like beliefs and habits. We also seem to tolerate other groups in public, however the inner beliefs are still there. We do not accept other lifestyles if they threaten our own.
