Hello everyone. I'm Shannon.

I couldn't find any rules about age anywhere, so if there are and I'm not supposed to be here  please let me know... I'd rather not break rules.

I'm here because I'm working on a project for my sociology class in high school. We're doing independent projects that count as our midterm grade, and since it's a 1 semester class, it's really a final. It's important. We basically have to ask a question that we don't know the answer to, and then do research (interviews, surveys, case studies, etc.) that will help us find an answer to our question. The topic is supposed to relate to us somehow. My question was about how gender identity affects someone's life and interactions with other people (with family and friends, at work, in college/university, everyday life, etc.). I'm not trans, or genderqueer, or anything else other than cisgendered, but my partner (who is female-bodied) is now asking some people to call her Zachary, but doesn't mind what gender pronouns are used, which is why I say she and her... it's just what I'm used to. That's not my point, though. My point is that my topic's answer DOES affect me, which is why it's a useful project.

I've had a hard time finding people to interview/do case studies with. I have one, possibly two people... and I would really like one more. My project is due in about two weeks, and I'm terrible at procrastinating, which is why I'm stupid and didn't start gathering data over my Thanksgiving break!

If anyone here is willing to help me out with my project, please send me a PM. OR..... let me know where I should post this so I have a better chance of getting replies, since I know this is just an intro forum. There are a lot of subforums here, so I don't know what forum would be best.

Hey Shannon, nice to meet you.

You could post your questions in the general forum or transgender forum if you like and we can all have a stab at giving you answers.

Who are you interested in interviewing? :) Another significant other, a transman, transwoman..?

You sort of have to phrase your question in the form of a question.  Do that and I'm sure you will get some answers.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

I'm interested in interviewing someone who's non-cisgendered and somewhat out, even if it's not to everyone. Basically, someone living, at least sometimes, as the gender they actually are, even though they might still be the gender they were physically born as. I hadn't thought about interviewing a significant other, though... that would be interesting. Kind of two viewpoints to get my data? 2 or 3 of each? Hmm... I hadn't thought of that, but I like that idea... I'll have to ask my teacher if that will work :D

The question for my project was "How does gender identity affect someone's life and relationships with family, friends, and other people?" which is a HUGE, broad, question that won't ever be completely answered... but it was supposed to be a broad question.

I think I'll post on another forum too, but for now, I'm just reading older posts just to learn some more so I don't sound completely like an idiot.

I'm assuming your asking how being transgenderd (or a gender identity that does not match your body) affects someone's life and relationships with family, friends, and other people. Otherwise you might as well go out and interview cisgendered people. There are far more of them.

Argh, I went to go PM two people and couldn't because I don't have 15 posts yet :s

Yes Nicky, and that's why I'm here... it's not much use to me to go ask people what the majority of people go through every day, because I'm already somewhat familiar with that.

I think I will post this in one of the other forums too though... and hopefully get a few more replies :)

If anyone who PMed me could please email me instead, it would be great... since I'm still at "visitor" status and have well under 15 posts, I can't send PMs or emails yet and want to get working on my project as soon as I can. Thanks... if not, I'll just have to wait until I get enough chances to post without making useless posts.
