Transsexuals find new body doesn't ensure happiness

There are no official statistics on the number of transgender people in Vietnam and how many undergo gender reassignment surgery.

But post-operative transsexuals say the painful and expensive medical procedures they endured didn't give them the normal lives they were expecting.

When reading articles such as this, I don't know whether to take it at face value or to suspect some personal beliefs of the reporter are being written up as fact.

QuoteThe language barrier meant she was not properly informed of postoperative procedures, Thanh added.
Since Vietnam does not allow SRS, transsexuals have to go out of country.  It would be very scary to get surgery where I can't communicate with the surgical staff.

Well, of course not, duh *giggles*  This is real life not a fairy tale ;D and I am sure that you know this as well  :).  I mean, life doesn't become all rosy and ecstatic forever and ever after SRS.  Your life will always have its ups and downs regardless of SRS status; hence, maintaining a sense of reality at all times (pre and post SRS) is a very good idea! Thank you very much!  ;D

GRS does not make your life happy, YOU DO. The surgery can make you feel whole. It can't make you feel happy, no one can do that.
I went to Thailand, I couldn't speak the language and had excellent care.

Uh-huh  :).  Except *you* as you so cleverly stated.  Besides, if people are not content with themselves to start with, how can anyone make them happy?
