OK. I am a gay man in the flyover states, Michigan to be exact, and I admit it. I am tired of hearing people complaining about Proposal 8 as if it was a first of its kind event in U.S. history. You know what? It wasn't. There were 11 states that faced similar amendments in 2004, a ploy by Karl Rove to boost the turn out of the right wing Christian movement to support Bush. All but one of those amendments were passed.
And we queers in the fly overs did not have the infrastructure and support that California had. In fact, I believe that had the movement given two cents and a shake in 2004 and funded the movements against those amendments, California might not have happened. Imagine if we had mustered the money to fight those amendments and beaten many of them back in 2004. The right wing would not be as emboldened as they are now.
