Gay activists met with members of President-elect Barack Obama's transition team this week in what was believed to be the first meeting between national gay rights leaders and an incoming administration.

Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said the two-hour meeting Dec. 10 focused on policy issues and presidential appointments.

"If it is the first time that a meeting of this expansive a group of GLBT leaders has been brought in to meet with this level of leadership of a presidential transition team, then I think it's both historic and it bodes well for the kind of a relationship that our community is going to have with this administration," Solmonese said.
